Antacids, Antiperspirants, and Aluminum -Time to read Labels

Both these products can contain aluminum.  There are aluminum free antacids and deodorants.

If you take antacids get out the bottle/container and look at the active ingredient. If it says aluminum hydroxide -THROW IT OUT !  You can find Aluminum free antacids but it may take a little detective work on your part. Calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate are also used as the active ingredient.  Phew your antacid doesn't list aluminum hydroxide - YOU AREN'T ALUMINUM FREE YET!!!!  Check the inactive ingredients for ALUMINUM LAKE (it is used as a colorant in some antacids ).  You might say "oh it's only a small amount of aluminum lake no big deal".  Remember if you take them on a regular basis a little bit will be a lot in a short amount of time.  Not all aluminum is excreted by our bodies even when taking all the supplements and implementing the life style choices presented in Dennis' book.

Antacids with calcium carbonate: Walgreens antacid white, Tums Natural, Equate, CVS natural (Look carefully at the labels as each company makes many different antacids)

Antiperspirants -Aluminum-based salts are used in antiperspirants to stop wetness.  So get out your antiperspirant and look at the ingredients.  If you see aluminum - yep your are right - THROW IT OUT!!  Luckily some companies advertise and label their product aluminum free which makes the job of switching easier.  However if you perspire a lot you are going to have to do some research as the aluminum free products in general don't address the perspiration issue.

Essentials by Arm and Hammer is an aluminum free deodorant.
Schmidt's available on the web is also aluminum free  - they make one with baking soda and one without (sensitive skin)  some people get a rash from baking soda
MOM's - available on line from people's pharmacy
Olivina Cedar and Bourbon - one friend who sweats a lot likes this deodorant
Tom's of Maine has aluminum free products

Many companies are marking Alum containing deodorants as a natural safe deodorant.  Yikes !!!  Alum is Aluminum - it is Aluminum Sulfate.  Two companies are advertising these deodorants as aluminum free.

See blog post 11/2016 for more information on Sources of Aluminum so you can reduce your aluminum intake

  1. YIKES. My One a day capsule has Aluminum. I threw it out

The following comes from a website called stop killing my kids.

"When you read the food labels, look for either “Red #40” or “Red #40 Lake”. The word “lake” afterwards means it was made water soluble by mixing the dye with aluminum hydroxide. This practice is most commonly seen in pills"

On a separate note, We have switched to the Arm & Hammer aluminum free deodorant and are mostly happy

  2. Thanks for your post Gary. The same thing happened to me with my fiber pills and I was taking 3 of them a day. I don't want to think about how many years I have done this for !?!? It was actually a friend who read the book who alerted me. It is in Dennis' book but there is too much information to take in and act on. One step at a time. The decongestant I take when I have a cold also has aluminum in it. I haven't searched yet for an aluminum free decongestant.
