How to lower your exposure to Aluminum

How to lower your exposure to Aluminum !!!

Welcome to by blog.  My husband Dennis N. Crouse, who has a doctorate in chemistry from Harvard University, has published a book titled Prevent Alzheimer's Autism and Stroke with 7 supplement, 7 lifestyle changes and a dissolved mineral. the book is available on Amazon.

This blog is an opportunity for myself and people to discuss and ask questions about the information in his book.  The focus will be on how you can begin to make the changes in your life so you can prevent yourself and your loved one's from getting Alzheimer's and Autism or having a stroke.

The first step you have to take is to inform yourself that Aluminum is a neurotoxin and the cause of Alzheimer's, Autism and Stroke.  Read my husbands book to get this information.  He has done an exhaustive review of the literature.  Currently the research has reached a tipping point and there is no doubt that Aluminum is the cause of these diseases.

The next step is to take action.  Here are some tips on how to reduce your aluminum intake.  Go to your kitchen with a magnet and test your pots and pans.  You want to throw out anything that is Aluminum.  If the magnet sticks to your pot, it is made of stainless steel and it is a keeper.  If the magnet doesn't stick it may be made of Aluminum.  Your next test is the scratch test.  Get a key and scratch the pan, if the key scratches the pan easily it is most likely made from aluminum.  If there is any pitting in the pan it is definitely aluminum and throw it out.  If the key doesn't scratch the pan it is a stainless steel pan and a keeper.  Note some stainless steel pans can be scratched with a key.  In addition, some stainless steel pans have a lower amount of nickel and won't pass the magnet test.

I was shocked when I looked at Pots and Pans at Bed Bath and Beyond.  Most pans were made of Aluminum !!!

I have bought stainless steel cookware as presents for family and friends to replace their aluminum cookware.  I wish I had enough money to do this for my entire family.

Throw out your aluminum foil and buy non stick Aluminum foil.  We are all so addicted to aluminum foil I don't think it is realistic to go cold turkey on Aluminum foil.  Don't bake, grill etc. in the disposable aluminum pans.

Next if you are a baker throw out your baking powder and make your own.  My husband analyzed several brands of Aluminum Free Baking Powder and to our surprise THERE WAS ALUMINUM !!   Do you have Bisquick in your closet - throw it out - it contains aluminum.  Check any pancake mixes, cake mixes for aluminum.  Check your frozen Pancakes and waffles they most likely contain aluminum in high amounts.

Recipe for making baking powder

2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon corn starch (helps it to not cake)

It is a ratio of 2 parts cream of tartar to 1 part baking soda

I could not find a baking powder in the store which uses cream of tartar as the acid.

It has been an interesting journey looking at labels and throwing out things that contain aluminum.  It lurks in places you never would suspect.  My husband and I continue to learn of new sources 'hidden' in our kitchen and in our medicine cabinet.  We have friends finding new sources all the time.  Recently a friend emailed my husband asking if aluminum lake is bioavailable aluminum (meaning your body will absorb the aluminum).   My husband's answer was yes.  Aluminum lake was on the ingredient label in my friend's multivitamin.  Aluminum lake is used as a colorant for pills.  This got me thinking about my multivitamins as they are yellow.  My mutlivitamins are aluminum free but decided to check other colored pill I take, the CVS fiber pills which I take are orange and contained aluminum lake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was both shocked and royally pissed off !!!!!!
