Alzheimer's organization Myth #4 - BUSTED !

The Alzheimer's organization needs to update their website!  Myth 4 is not accurate!
"Myth 4: Drinking out of aluminum cans or cooking in aluminum pots and pans can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

Reality: During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat."

Reality:

  • “Overall, the evidence indicates that Alzheimer’s disease is a human form of chronic aluminum neurotoxicity.” J.R. Walton, Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales, St George Hospital, Sydney, Australia[12]
  • “…studies suggest that aluminum may not be as innocuous as was previously thought and that aluminum may actively promote the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease.” Stephen Bondy, Environmental Toxicology Program, Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, Department of Medicine, University of California, Irvine, CA[16]
  •  “The hypothesis that aluminum significantly contributes to Alzheimer’s disease is built upon very solid experimental evidence and should not be dismissed. Immediate steps should be taken to lessen human exposure to aluminum…” Lucija Tomljenovic, PhD., University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada[14]
  • “There is growing evidence for a link between aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease… it is widely accepted that aluminum is a recognized neurotoxin, and that it could cause cognitive deficiency and dementia…” Masahiro Kawahara, Department of Analytical Chemistry, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyushu University of Health and Welfare, Japan[10]
  • “As scientific publications continue to support the hypothesis that aluminum toxicity is involved in Alzheimer’s disease, it would be prudent to adopt strategies for preventing excessive aluminum exposures…” Maire Percy, PhD, University of Toronto, Canada.[18]

YOU CAN HELP REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF ALZHEIMER’S AND AUTISM

There is a Neurotoxic Ingredient in Baking Powder and Food Dyes

Aluminum is the neurotoxic ingredient in some baking powders that kills neurons in the brain.
If you are using aluminum-free baking powder in your business, THANK YOU!

Here is information as to why it is so important to bake with aluminum-free baking powder and use natural food dyes.

A daily diet of pancakes, waffles, muffins, or biscuits increases the risk of Alzheimer’s by 760%. This is because most commercial baking powder contains sulfate, phosphate, and pyrophosphate salts of aluminum used to acidify baking soda during baking. (Rogers, M.A.M. and Simon, D.G.; Age and Ageing; 28:205-9 (1999))

My mother-in law has Alzheimer’s. My husband Dennis N. Crouse has used his PhD in chemistry from Harvard University to research ways to help his mother. What he learned after reviewing the scientific literature for several years both shocked us and gave us hope. Aluminum salts are a cause of Alzheimer’s and Autism so these diseases can be prevented. Dennis and I are passionate about getting this information to people. Dennis has written a book titled “Prevent Alzheimer’s, Autism, and Stroke”. We have also made you tube videos in order to share the information he learned.
Muffins and other baked goods made with aluminum containing baking powder are beyond TOXIC for your brain!!!! For instance I have unknowingly been preparing pumpkin muffins with 20 mg of aluminum per muffin. My delicious pumpkin muffin when made with baking powder containing aluminum has 200 times higher aluminum levels than the safe aluminum level in a quart of drinking water.

A little bit of aluminum every day can lead to a large amount of accumulated aluminum in the brain. It is estimated that 4% of the aluminum you ingest today will still be in your body 50 years later.
Aluminum-free baking powder is available. Dennis and I did a cost analysis and found switching to aluminum-free baking powder increases the cost of one muffin by less than a penny. There are several aluminum-free baking powders. You can also make aluminum-free baking powder with 1 part baking soda, 2 parts cream of tartar, and 1 part corn starch.

Food dyes are another source of aluminum. An aluminum salt of the colorant is used to make dyes called aluminum lakes and in some cases colorants are combined with alumina (a.k.a. aluminum oxide). Because of aluminum corrosion, baking in an aluminum pan also adds aluminum to the baked good.

Baked Goods High Source of Aluminum

Muffins (and baked goods) made with aluminum containing baking powder are beyond TOXIC for your brain!!!!  There is hope, Starbucks makes an aluminum free muffin and you can make your own nontoxic muffins.  Don’t get your muffins at Dunkin Donuts, they contain aluminum.

Scones are more toxic than muffins as the recipe can call for 2 tablespoons of baking powder for 6 to 8 scones - YIKES !  If you are a scone lover check to make sure the baker uses aluminum free baking powder.

Dennis and I have been making videos with the help of our local TV station.  The title of the video series is ‘Brain Fitness in the Aluminum Age’.   One of the videos focuses on Eliminating Aluminum Intake

Here is an excerpt from the video:

‘The risk of Alzheimer’s is increased 760% with a daily diet of pancakes, waffles, muffins, or biscuits.  This is because most commercial baking powder contains sodium aluminum sulfate or potassium aluminum sulfate. ‘
YIKES!!!  One could dismiss this by saying I don’t eat these foods on a daily basis.  Hold on, guess how much aluminum is in 1 muffin ?

Excerpt from video:

‘Laurie loves to bake. We found that baked goods prepared with baking powder were a major source of aluminum for us.  For instance we were preparing pumpkin muffins with 20 mg of aluminum per muffin. We now bake with homemade aluminum free baking powder.  And we only purchase prepared baked goods that have been made with yeast or another non-aluminum containing leavening agent’

My delicious pumpkin muffin when made with baking powder containing aluminum has 200 times higher aluminum levels than the safe aluminum level in a quart of drinking water.

I decided to do some research to see what leavening agent Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks use for their muffins.  WOW, YIPPEE Starbucks makes aluminum free muffins as the baking powder they use is (calcium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch, monocalcium phosphate, calcium sulfate).  Sadly Dunkin Donuts muffins contain aluminum.  I love their coffee cake muffin.  The leaving agent this company uses is (Baking Soda, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Aluminum Sulfate).

My favorite local bakery for muffins uses aluminum.  I am glad I stopped eating these muffins when I retired.  I am planning on contacting them to see if they can change to an aluminum free leavening agent.

Here are some aluminum free pancake mixes : Log Cabin, Krusteaz HEART HEALTHY, Annie’s.  A friend uses Jiffy baking mix to make his pancakes – this mix is also aluminum free.

Here is the recipe for homemade baking powder.
The manufactures whose products were tested and found to have an undetectable amount (less than 0.004mg/tsp.) of aluminum are in parentesis417:
2 Tbsp. Cream of Tartar (McCormick and Signature Kitchens)
1 Tbsp. Baking Soda (Arm & Hammer and Davis)
            1 Tbsp. Corn Starch (Davis)
Mix the ingredients together and put the mixture through a screen wire sieve. Place in a container with a snap on plastic lid for storage. Store the homemade baking powder in a cool dry place.
Here are the results of Dennis’s analysis of some baking powders.

Alum used in "natural aluminum free deodorants" - Yikes - Alum is aluminum sulfate

Many companies are marking Alum containing deodorants as a natural safe deodorant.  Yikes !!!  Alum is Aluminum - it is Aluminum Sulfate.  Two companies are advertising these deodorants as aluminum free.

I have written to a few companies to inform them.  One company was very appreciative of the information and asked Dennis for what other ingredient they could use.  They were not aware that Alum was Aluminum Sulfate.  I will let you know if I hear back from the other company.

Sources of Aluminum in our daily lives

Improve your Health

Reduce your daily intake of Aluminum

List of sources of aluminum generated from a book written by Dennis N Crouse:
Prevent Alzheimer’s Autism and Stroke with 7 Supplements, 7 Lifestyle Choices and a Dissolved Mineral

Non stick thermolon is safe if it is attached to stainless steel

Aluminum Foil – Safer Alternatives for cooking,  parchment paper

For storage use plastic wrap between food and aluminum foil

Drinking Water – Aluminum in drinking water comes from alum which is used to purify

drinking water and cement lined drinking water pipes which leach aluminum.

Use pitcher style Brita Water filter to remove aluminum and keep silica in the water.

BEWARE: Some inline home water filters add aluminum to the water

Water Filters

Most fluoride filters use alumina (aluminum oxide) to filter the fluoride which
adds aluminum to your drinking water.

Safer Alternative - Bone Char filter - make your own (video to be made soon 6-2020)

Baking Powder – even aluminum free baking powder contains some aluminum

Safer alternative – make you own – recipe: 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon corn starch (so it doesn’t cake)

Coffee/Tea Maker –the heating element in which the water is heated is usually made of
                                           aluminum

Safer Alternative :Coffee makers where the water never contacts aluminum

Drip Style : Behmor Brazen 3.0, Bunn Speed Brew

Nespresso Type C110 (the aluminum cups have been tested and they are safe)

Percolator:  Faberware FCP 240-A (small), Faberware FCP 412 (large)

Styptic Pencil – Alum (aluminum sulfate)
Lipstick – aluminum lake as a colorant

Soap and Shampoo
Bar Soap in the UK - Dove original beauty cream bar
EnviroKlenz Odor Neutralizing Bar Soap - aluminum oxide (company in Florida)
              Dry Shampoo
             Medicated Selsun Blue

Look for and avoid these ingredients on food labels

alum (aluminum sulfate), alumina, aluminum, or bauxite.
Artificial Food Colorants – containing Aluminum Lake, Carmine contains aluminum
Safer Alternative – Natural Food Colorants – Color Kitchen makes good colorants for frosting

VACCINES - This source of aluminum is potentially 100% bioavailable as opposed to ingested aluminum which is .2% bioavailable.  Bioavailable means the amount which gets into your bloodstream.

Vaccines need to be considered a daily source of aluminum as the aluminum that is used as an adjuvant in the vaccine is time released.  The aluminum continues to get into your bloodstream long after the vaccination!

Vaccines and Aluminum The dangers of vaccines

Aluminum in Vaccines

I will discuss aluminum in vaccines and ways you can protect your infant or child when they are vaccinated.

Aluminum is a neurotoxin.  Aluminum in Vaccines causes Autism.
The body burden of Aluminum from vaccinations exceeds that from dietary sources.
After attending a family party and seeing all the healthy, vibrant little ones running around and playing, I was compelled to take information from Dennis’s book to inform people about the dangers of vaccines.

Aluminum hydroxide, aluminum phosphate, and alum are used as adjuvants in human vaccines because they potentiate the response of our bodies to the vaccine. (potentiate means: to increase the power, effect, or likelihood of (something, especially a drug or physiological reaction)

In 2011 Tomljenovic and Shaw looked at the prevalence of autism as a function of vaccination schedules in 7 western countries including the U.S. They found the following:

11. Children from countries with the highest autism prevalence have the highest exposure to aluminum containing vaccines.

22. The increase in exposure to aluminum adjuvants in the U.S. significantly correlates with the increase in autism prevalence in the U.S. over the last two decades.

33. A significant correlation exists between the amount of aluminum administered to children, particularly at 3 to 4 months of age, and the current prevalence of autism in 7 western countries.

There has been an increased Number of Infant/Childhood Vaccinations

The number of vaccinations required for school entry increased from 10 in the late 1970’s to 32 in 2010. As these vaccines have become available they have been adopted by developed countries around the world. Of the 32 vaccinations currently required for school entry, 18 vaccinations that are given in the first 72 months contain an aluminum salt as a helper or adjuvant for the vaccine.

What you can do

Ask your doctor to have your child vaccinated with one vaccine at a time.

If the doctor is not receptive to this request you can tell them about  the landmark case in 2008.  The Poling family was awarded damages under VICP ( Vaccine Injury Compensation Program) when their daughter Hannah developed autism-like symptoms after the administration of vaccine.

Give your child Vitamin D  Vitamin D3 lowers aluminum levels in your blood. . In order to protect the fetus and infant from aluminum, mothers are recommended to take 4,000 IU/day while pregnant and 6,000 IU/day of vitamin D3 while breastfeeding. Infants should be given 400 IU/day and children should be given 800 IU/day of vitamin D3. If baby formula is used it should have a sufficient level of vitamin D3 to correspond to 400 IU/day based upon the volume of formula the infant consumes, otherwise vitamin D3 supplementation is recommended.
Have your child Drink Fiji water – The silica in this water has been proven to remove aluminum from your body.

If you want more information about aluminum and it’s effect on the brain you can read Dennis’ book Prevent Alzheimer’s, Autism and Stroke with 7 supplements, 7 lifestyle choices and a dissolved mineral and Silica Water the Secret of Healthy Blue Zone Longevity in the Aluminum Age.  Both books are available from Amazon.
